Our milkmen have delivered some festive cheer to poorly children and vulnerable families with a series of special early morning deliveries this week. 

Hundreds of gifts of new toys for girls and boys of all ages were donated by customers and staff of family-owned dairy Mortons Dairies to local charities: KIND, Zoe’s Place, Five Children and Families Trust, The Isabella Trust and The Venny in Speke.

In an annual tradition, Mortons Dairies collect toys from kind-hearted customers all over Merseyside and drop them off from a special Christmas milk float at local charities in the run up to the big day.

Stephen Yip MBE, founder of KIND Liverpool, the children's charity which has helped tens of thousands of children and their families from across Liverpool and Merseyside cope with the effects of disadvantage and poverty, said:

“We’d like to thank all our supporters this year. This kind of generosity enables us to continue fulfilling our work to support the families who need it most across our region.”

Donna Lauder of Five Children & Families Trust in Speke, said:

“I can't believe the generosity and support people have shown this year especially after the dreadful year we have all had. This really helps us on our mission to make sure that no child goes without at Christmas.. On behalf of all children centre staff and our families we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us this year.”

“It has been a challenging year for everybody, not least for the most vulnerable families in our local community. We’ve had an amazing response from our customers and we’d like to thank all our customers across the region and all our staff who took part in collecting and delivering the toys.”

Mortons Dairies, has delivered milk in glass bottles on Merseyside for nearly 100 years. It has more than 140,000 glass bottles in circulation and delivers more than 35,000 pints of milk from seven depots on a fleet of around 100 electric milk floats

Five Children & Families Trust, based on Conleach Road in Speke, received the giant shipment of food essentials from family-owned business Mortons Dairies.

Mortons Dairies co-ordinated the delivery with the support of a range of suppliers including Roberts Bakery, Coultons Bread, Langs Eggs, Ann Forshaw’s Yogurt, Dunsters Farm and Manor Lodge.

As a charity in the heart of the community we are doing our very best to ensure that local families can be fed properly during this crisis. The sales director at the region’s biggest milk dairy beat off stiff competition to be named as winner of the Masters category at the World Modern Jive Championships in Blackpool alongside his dance partner Claire Morris. The competition was held at Blackpool Tower Ballroom, home of Strictly Come Dancing.

As well winning this year’s World Championship, he has also scooped ten domestic championships including three Welsh championships, two Scottish championships, two UK championships, the regional West Midlands championship, Northern championship and the Brit Rock UK Championship.

Steve said: “I started dancing nearly 20 years ago and to be honest I never thought I’d get so far with it.

“Winning the championship is an amazing feeling and it really is the icing on the cake of my dancing career so far. It’s a wonderful hobby and I recommend anyone who has never given it a go to try it out.

“Even if you never enter a competition, dancing is great for fitness and it’s a friendly, social scene.

Julian Harrison, managing director of Mortons Dairies, added: “We’re delighted with Steve’s performances on the dancefloor and we are all celebrating his achievement with him.

“Many of our customers will be delighted to hear this news because Steve is a popular figure not only with our residential customers in Chester but our commercial ones too.”

For the past two weeks we have been running a competition over on our Facebook page for Valentines Day. Whoever posted the most 'Romantic' posts on our page would enter the draw to win a £50.00 Voucher to spend at a Hickory's smokehouse.

"The gifts will bring a smile to the faces of children and their families who face the prospect of needing medical care and support over the Christmas period."

"We've had an amazing response this year and we’re delighted to share our haul with Claire House."

This money will go a long way to sustaining their school in Kisumu, Kenya that helps provide a better future for the local children.

We did it!

Five weeks of training led us to Manchester on a cold morning with icy winds.  There was no turning back now, this was it, time to embrace the atmosphere and remember why we chose to do this.  Yes, the reasons:  To help those unfortunate to be diagnosed with this horrible disease and to remember the people who have been taken from us.

We arrived at the start area in good time.  A few nerves and a little anxiety but who hasn’t suffered this in their lifetime.  The run commenced and we were in the third wave of starters.  The only way to look was forward!  A slow incline to begin always gets the blood rushing and we quickly settled into the pace. Maybe a bit quicker than training but it was comfortable.  We reached the first mile in just over 11 minutes so the adrenaline was definitely pumping around our bodies.  It must have been the high 5’s from the Huskie dogs that drove us on!  We clocked the next mile where the route was quite narrow for the amount of runners.  It was all going to plan.  We were controlled and composed in what was a great challenge.  A lap of the running track was next before passing the samba band, hitting their drums, to a welcoming downhill section. We headed for the last loop (of lap 1), where the wind nearly split us two!  It was piercing, but we were focused on beginning lap 2 and what we wanted to achieve. A brief drink of water moistened the lips, however the biting wind quickly dried them! We were maintaining our pace and the time predicted was quicker than training runs. After a lovely controlled 4.5 miles running together, we mutually agreed to finish the run separately. This was probably the most difficult time of the run. The end was soon in sight and after a sprint finish Ged finished in 71 mins 25 seconds with Lewis finishing 73 mins 58 seconds.

From the age of eight Norman used to help his father deliver the daily orders to customers in Dingle, Liverpool. Norman said "Back in the day we used huge milk churns brought by horse and cart from Liverpool Railway Station". Norman at the age of eight used to wash and clean the bottles, fill up with fresh milk to be delivered round the city. Loading up horse and carts they would hit the streets in the early hours each morning.

Norman who now lives in High Moss, Ormskirk, has always ensured his customers get their daily deliveries of fresh milk and great local produce. Nothing has stopped this loyal member of staff on his daily rounds, even through the depths of winter. During the heavy snow of 2010, Norman transferred his deliveries to a sledge in order to reach his customers, walking over icy roads and through heavy snow he ensured families received their orders.

We would like to Thank & Congratulate Norman on 65 years of service, here's to many more.

As of Wednesday 28th September Roberts Bakery have ceased production of Thick / Medium Wholemeal 800g & Thick / Medium Wholemeal 400g loaves. 

They have however introduced a new 'Wholesome Wholemeal 800g' & 'Wholesome Wholemeal 400g' range. Thicker than a standard medium loaf with an improved recipe.

To Kenya With Love (TKWL) is a UK Christian charity that works to significantly transform the lives of children in Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya, where levels of poverty are amongst the highest in the country.
Their child sponsorship programme enables them  to provide each child with a comprehensive package of care, including quality education, food, clothing and medication. Many of their children have lost both parents and sponsorship helps to keep them with family members, rather than them end up in an orphanage or on the streets.
Each year TKWL host a Cream Tea Event in the hope of raising as much money as possible. Mortons Dairies will be providing milk for the tea and loafs of bread for the sandwiches this year, we also have a decorated float that will be attending the church.

The parade that heads through the Wirral Towns of West Kirkby, Hoylake, and Meols aims to raise awareness and funds for a local charity, Claire House Children’s Hospice.

It attracts people from all over the North West, raising money, celebrating local talent and providing family fun.

Having been associated with the Festival for numerous years, we were delighted to be approached to transport the 'Razzle, Dazzle Piano' & Artist Barb Singleton through the streets of the parade on Saturday 16th July.

The family owned business, which has seven depots and 230 staff across the region, teamed up with customers served by their Wirral and Chester sites to donate Easter eggs to children and their families at the hospice.

The Walton Centre, based in Fazakerley, employs around 1,300 staff and treats more than 100,000 patients each year.

After winning a competitive nationwide tender in November 2015 the family-run dairy company will become the sole supplier to the neurology facility from the end of March.

Simon Holt, business development manager at Mortons & Harrisons Dairies, said: “The new deal adds to the large number of other NHS organisations we supply across the region including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Warrington Hospital and the Mersey Care NHS Trust.”

The firm has been operating and delivering milk to local communities since the 1920s. The company has grown significantly over the past 80 years to become the North West’s largest dairy, with more than 55,000 customers and 230 staff.

We arrived on an iconic milk float to teach the youngsters about milk, the cows it comes from and its health benefits. We also shared samples of dairy products with the children. 

Our very own Julian Harrison, operations director of Mortons Dairies, said:

“We’re delighted that our milkmen are able to help educate children in our local community about milk and the products we produce with it. It’s great to be able to let them sample some products and sit aboard our traditional milk float. Our milkmen are out in the early hours and many children never get the chance to see a real milk float in action.”

Greg Parker, Head Teacher at LIPA Primary School, said:

“We aim to immerse children in enjoyable learning experiences, so we were thrilled when the milkmen from Mortons Diaries offered to visit with their milk float. The children were excited to find out more about where their milk comes from and loved being able to see the traditional float.”   

Steve became a milkman in 1979 following in the footsteps of his father into the business. He’s now sales director at Mortons Dairies, the Merseyside based dairy, but in his spare time his talents set alight the dancing circuit.

As well as being runner up in last year’s World Championship in the Over 45’s Modern Jive Category he’s also scooped nine domestic championships including 3 Welsh championships, 2 Scottish championships, 2 UK championships, the regional West Midlands championship and the Brit Rock UK Championship.

Mr Ledsham says he’s currently preparing to defend his Welsh Champion title at the end of the month and getting ready for the World Championships in Blackpool early next year with his dance partner Claire Morris.

“I started dancing in 2000 with a pal of mine and never thought I’d get so far with it. It’s an amazing scene and it’s taken me all over the country and abroad. It’s such a wonderful community of people and I’ve been able to make friends and even met my wife, Paula, who is an even better dancer than me having achieved open dancer status. Paula is a triple UK champion and senior dance instructor. As well as my wife she’s also my coach and she inspires me a great deal.”

“We’re delighted with the impact Steve has made on the dancefloor and proud of his achievements. Our customers and staff have seen our milkmen dancing up and down their driveways for many years now and Steve’s an inspiring and popular figure not only in our business but also in the local communities we serve.” 

It is in this year that they are hoping to raise a whopping £31000 !!!

This month they will be running a 'Fun At Work Week' featuring a number of varied events culminating in a Prize draw located at their Garden Centre.

Mortons Dairies kindly donated a Brand New Mountain Bike to the prize draw in order to aid in the raising of funds for MacMillan, as we take great pride in working together with our local businesses and for such a great cause felt it was the least we could do.

We are providing two of our traditional milk floats to lead the yearly parade activities, which takes place in the town this Saturday, July 4.

The milk floats will be sporting two special registration plates - Hoylake 1 and Hoylake 2.

Mortons Dairies are delighted to announce that in Partnership with West Country Milk, we will be donating £500.00 towards Café Nero’s project ‘A Bag of Beans by Any Means’, raising funds for ‘Help for Heroes’.

The project is being participated by West Country Milk Director David Crocker & General Manager Danny Raleigh, who whilst cycling, will be carrying a bag of Coffee beans over a total of 1149 miles over the South West region.

Our encouragement and thoughts go out to David & Danny in this challenging event and hope as much money is raised possible for the ‘Help for Heroes’ Charity.

Today is officially World Milk Day – and, to celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite reasons to enjoy one of the staple contents of your fridge.

It will encourage you to lose weight

Drinking milk will make you feel fuller for longer – so you’ll be less inclined to snack and over-eat throughout the day. Recent clinical trials have also found a strong correlation between increased calcium intake, body fat percentage and waist size.

For Britain's Favourite Foods: Are They Good For You? Professor Alice Roberts immersed herself in some of the most fascinating recent scientific research about the country's most popular foods. Here, she shares some of the facts she uncovered.

To prove that milk is one of the most effective drinks to rehydrate with, Professor Roberts recruited a team of student volunteers from the University of Birmingham to exercise with her, “then rehydrate with three different drinks - milk, water and a sports drink. Milk stayed in the system for much longer than water or the sports drink”.

The reason, she explains, is because milk releases very slowly into the small intestine, so it is absorbed much more gradually into the bloodstream, helping the body retain fluid for longer. It also has a high number of electrolytes, including sodium and potassium, which are lost from the body when sweating.

Les Scallion, a highly thought of Franchisee for over 19 years has called time on his beloved Round covering the West Kirby & Newton areas. Les has been a pillar of the community for so many years and ourselves and his customers alike would like to Wish Les a Happy & Well earned retirement. 

Colin Stacey, our in Depot mechanic spanning over a decade has also announced his decision to retire. Colin has been a great servant to all of our depots and without his expertise and knowledge, our fleet of vehicles and electric floats would not of made our daily deliveries. 

Both Les & Colin have been working very closely with their replacements to ensure that our Quality service remains. Les has handed over his round to another long serving Milkman Dave, who's values match those of Les's. Dave has worked for us for over 10 years having previously been a Supervisor and then becoming a Franchisee. Colin's replacement is a young and enthusiastic Mechanic Chris, who's traditional values with modern methods ensure our fleet of vehicles will be maintained to the highest standard.

We would like to wish both Les & Colin all the best in their retirements and look forward to our bright future delivering quality produce with quality service. 

Studies in the U.S show a link between milk consumption and higher levels of a naturally-occurring antioxidant called Glutathione in the brain of older, healthy adults. 

The antioxidant is believed to help stave off oxidative stress and the resulting damage caused by reactive chemical compounds produced during the normal metabolic process in the brain.

The study involved asking 60 volunteers about their dietary habits before scanning their brains to study levels of Glutathione.

Those who had drunk milk more recently were found to have higher levels of the antioxidant.

In a move to support local British Dairy Farmers, Virgin Trains is to stock regionally sourced fresh milk on all of its trains with Mortons Dairies stocking its West Coast mainline Trains. 

Over the course of a year, more than 300,000 Litres of fresh milk (Equivalent to 528,000 pints) will be used across the 300 Virgin Trains services that run each day to be enjoyed by passengers in their teas & Coffee.

We are thrilled that Mortons Dairies have been chosen to support such a high profile company like Virgin trains and that Virgin recognise the need to support local Farmers & Businesses alike. 

By choosing Mortons, Virgin will achieve local sustainability and also a reduction on Carbon Footprint to which is important to Virgin, the environment and ourselves. 

This project is supported by the Rural Development Programme for England, for which Defra is the Managing Authority, part financed by The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas.

The current World Champion dancers and 6 National dancers are competing with over 200 dancers in 10 categories, from beginners to top dancers, 16 to 65+.

The competition is being heavily sponsored and supported by Mortons & Harrisons Dairies Ltd, a local family run business which was established in1925 and based here in the North West. Mortons employ over 200 staff in their Head Office and 8 depots across Merseyside & Cheshire.

The event starts on Friday 14^th November with a Freestyle Dance from 8pm, including a fun “Double Trouble” competition

Saturday 15^th sees the competition start from 11.00am with heats and finals all day until 8-30pm, followed by another fabulous Freestyle finishing at 1.00am.
